ADULT VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS FAQS

All you need to know.

You probably have ten million and one questions so we’ve come up with a list of the most frequent ones to help you out!

Please read it carefully before applying. We respond to over thousands of emails a month and try to get back to all applications in a timely manner, but if you don’t help us here, it’s virtually impossible to respond as fast as we would like to. Thanks in advance!

In the application form you will have a drop down menu with the full list. This does not mean spaces are still available in every program, but we keep programs open to take people on in case we need people for the waiting list.

The program is exactly the same in all venues. All venues have the same type of facilities and meet our high standards, check the venue section to read about each of them.

Check out the program objectives and commitments sections of our website. Your application form is what we use to help us decide if you are eligible to join the program, so it’s worth taking some time over your answers in section 4 (Profile Information – Tell us about yourself!). We would recommend you draft your answers elsewhere (e.g. on email or Word), and then cut and paste the answers into the form, otherwise the session could time out.

We promise the students that the volunteers don’t speak their language – it’s vital to the program.   So, if you do speak the language, ask yourself: Can I go through the program without uttering a word?  Only if you are certain that you will not be tempted to practice should you apply.  So remember the number one rule of the program….English only please!

You can apply for a program as soon as our program calendar is released (usually between Oct-Nov) for the following year. Only the dates viewable on the website and application form are available.

The application process is completely online and you will require an email address in order to apply. If your applications are too brief, we will not get the feeling that you could chat your way through 12 hours per day!

In the APPLICATION FORM you need to fill out all of the required fields (with the asterisk *).

We don’t want your work to ‘time out’, so we would recommend you draft your answers elsewhere (e.g. on email or Word), and then cut and paste the answers into the form. If you try to submit the application before filling everything in an error message will occur. This may mean that you still need to provide further details in other fields.

Be sure to select the correct date and venue when applying, for example take note of special programs i.e. TEACHERS or TEENS.

To do this, go to the top of this page and open the APPLY FORMS menu. Then select the Adult & Twenty Application and fill it out. At the end, click on SEND INFO.

You don’t need to complete a new full application form, but you do need to select your program dates.

To do this, go to the top of this page and open the APPLY FORMS menu. Then select the Adult Application for Veterans and fill it out.

Please remember to enter your full name exactly as it appeared on your original application, and include your Pueblo Inglés ID number, which you should have received by email.

If a person has never been to the program before, we do not allow it. Our logic being while the program is stimulating and fun, it is also tiring. We need to ensure that we provide our Spanish clients with fresh energy, ready to talk the hind legs off a donkey. We therefore only allow veterans (people who have been before) to sign up for two weeks.

As soon as further dates become available, we will publish these immediately on our website and email our database to let everyone know. We also send our newsletter to inform our volunteers of what’s going on around here!

Of course you can! It’s always worth applying last minute if you are keen on a certain date, though you are more likely to be accepted onto a program if you apply in advance because a lot of programs fill up quickly!

Updates to the calendar are made as soon as there are any changes. So, it’s impossible to book you into a program that doesn’t exist! If you are in our database, you will receive an email when updates are made.

We recommend that you bring comfortable, casual clothes – jeans, shirts, t-shirts, sweaters, swimsuit, shorts etc. If you’re prepared you will enjoy the nature of the area and the activities which we do every day. But above all, bring good walking shoes because you are probably going to do a lot of walking. Remember, the temperatures tend to drop at night, even in summer, so make sure you bring enough to wrap up.

Please do not make any travel plans until you receive your official confirmation email from us.

Our booking email will include all the information you need to start organizing your trip, along with travel and accommodation tips and, most importantly, a deadline.

Make sure to respect that deadline, as it’s essential to secure your placement.

Please remember not to make any reservations until you’ve received an email with the word “Booked” in the subject line.

In the meantime, you can review program specifics on the Volunteer Docs page.
As a general guideline, for most programs, you should plan to arrive in the departure city at least one night before the program begins. This ensures you’ll be on time for the bus to the venue the following morning.

Most volunteers also attend our welcome reception held the day before the program starts. If you’d like to join, please arrange to arrive by the morning or early afternoon that day.

For your return travel, please make sure not to book any departures earlier than 9:00 p.m. on the final day of the program.

We provide you with information, recommendations and advice through your “Personal Program Page”, but we do not make any bookings. Unfortunately we cannot always answer questions relating to very specific or personalized travel itineraries. We provide you with information, recommendations and advice through your “Personal Program Page”, but we do not make any bookings. Please bring comfortable clothing and enough for your entire stay, as laundry facilities are not available on site and most venues do not offer laundry services.

Voltage: 220V. You’ll need a plug adapter compatible with European outlets. If you plan to bring any electrical devices, ensure they are suitable for standard 220V European current, or bring the appropriate converter.

While most places accept card payments, some small shops and cafés in the villages only take cash, so we recommend carrying a small amount of euros with you.

You will be responsible for covering the cost of your flights as well as hotel accommodation for the night before and after the program.

Our company provides transportation to and from the venue from the departure city, along with full room and board for the duration of the program.

For our programs in Spain, you will also be covered by an accident insurance policy.

We recommend bringing a small amount of euros for any additional drinks, snacks, or souvenirs.

  • If you are a citizen of the EU, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or other visa-exempt countries, you do not need a visa for a short stay in Spain (up to 90 days within any 180-day period) for tourism, volunteering, or similar non-paid activities.
  • Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen area, and it must have been issued within the past 10 years.
  • It’s wise to make 1–2 copies of your passport (and ID) before you travel. In the event your documents are lost or stolen, authorities or your embassy may require copies.
  • Citizens of other countries (i.e. non-visa-exempt) should check with the Spanish embassy or consulate in their country about visa requirements before traveling.
  • Note: Spain’s requirements may also include proof of return/ onward ticket, proof of accommodation, and sufficient financial means for the duration of stay.

Please note that we cannot advise on official visa requirements, as these depend on your nationality and current immigration regulations. You should always check directly with the Spanish embassy or consulate in your country for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

We will do our best to accommodate volunteers in single rooms whenever possible, but please note that this cannot be guaranteed.

At some venues, and particularly during peak periods, there is a strong possibility that you will share a room with another volunteer of a similar age range and the same gender, especially in our Englischhausen programs.

If this arrangement does not suit you, you may wish to reconsider your application before confirming your participation.

Volunteers attending as couples will generally share a twin room, unless otherwise requested. We make every effort to schedule enough couples to allow as many individual volunteers as possible to have their own room.

We make every effort to review applications as quickly as possible. Our goal is to respond within 2–3 weeks, but during our peak season (summer), it may take a little longer.

In general, processing times can range from 1 day to 8 weeks, depending on the proximity of your selected program and the current volume of applications.

If it takes us a bit longer than expected, please don’t worry — it doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten you! It simply means we’re receiving a high number of applications at the moment.

There are first-aid kits at the hotel, but any illness or accident will require that we take you to the nearby town. If there is an emergency, we will take you to the clinic or hospital nearest to the venue. In Spain, you will be covered by a health and accident policy while participating in the program, including the bus trip to and from the venue.

We advise all volunteers of all nationalities to take out a private insurance policy for the duration of their entire trip to Europe.

Before being accepted, you will be asked to send in your MEDICAL DETAILS. We will not be able to process any applications until we have received all the necessary information.

Do you like Spanish food? I’m sure it’s very different to what you are used to. But no worries, after the first day or two you’ll get used to our tasty cuisine! Breakfast will be continental buffet style with a mixture of cereal, breads, cold cuts and fruit. For lunch and dinner, you will have a first course, second course, and a dessert. Be sure to eat well, the days are long and you need lots of energy! Are you a vegetarian? Are you on a special diet? Are you allergic to anything? We will take care of it!

We will keep you very well fed with three big meals a day. However, any in-between-meal snacks, drinks or ice creams will be at your own expense.

We encourage you to make the most of your time in a peaceful, remote setting — it’s a great opportunity to unplug and take a real break from everyday life.

While Wi-Fi is available in common areas at all venues, we ask that you use it sparingly so you can fully enjoy the program experience.

If you bring a laptop, please remember it can only be used during your free time. If constant internet access is essential for you, this may not be the ideal environment.

After you have completed section 1, click onto the tab saying section 2, complete and so on. If you try to submit the application before filling everything in an error message will occur. This may mean that you still need to provide further details in other sections. Click on each on each section to see what else is required.

The best thing is to open an email account as all of our communication is done via e-mail, but if you don’t want to do this, it’s probably best to use a friend/partner´s email address, preferably someone who checks their messages frequently.
